What is particularly special about your company compared to the many others in this area?
Bonville Construction Company, Inc. is a multi-disciplined firm, which has been providing the highest quality building design and construction services to clients since 1988. Our services represent more than typical contracting activities. We are design/build technical advocates, approaching projects from our clients’ point of view, representing our clients’ interests, and watching out for our clients’ bottom line.We have assembled a team of home designers, interior decorators, contractors, engineering specialists, and support staff with the combined experience and breadth of expertise normally found in companies many times our size. However, we do not have a multi-layered bureaucracy, and this allows Bonville Construction to be responsive to client needs, creative in our solutions, and cost effective in our execution.

Give the history and experience level of your corporation. How did you get into the business?
Bonville Construction has an extensive background in construction project design and development management. An original company founder, GEORGE P. BONVILLE, gained much of that experience and knowledge in his early residential construction time in the 1960′s; in numerous military-related building projects with Army Engineers and Navy Seabees in the Vietnam Era; through resort planning development in the Southeastern United States, and ultimately, home design/construction, remodeling, and project planning in the Pinehurst area.
His successor and co-founder, KENNETH J. BONVILLE, President of Bonville Construction, is a graduate civil engineer of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He is noted in the Pinehurst area for his “professional achievement in the Home Building Industry through environmental design, quality construction, and customer service.” This has manifested itself in the numerous national, state and local awards the firm has garnered over the years. His research, planning and management have established Bonville Construction Company as a leader in the North Carolina Home Building Industry. Bonville has served as an advisor to the Office of the Secretary of Defense on improving military housing quality standards and planning techniques. Having played football at West Point, he is an avid sports enthusiast and locally renowned youth soccer coach. A National “D”-Licensed soccer coach, his local traveling team won the North Carolina State Championship in their age group. Mr. Bonville has completed the majority of the degree requirements for the Masters in Business Administration and is a Certified Cisco Network Administrator. He is married and spends the majority of his non-business hours devoted to raising and educating his three children in conjunction with Susan Bonville, his wife.
JOHN EDWARD McFAY II, is the principal residential and commercial designer with Bonville Construction Company, Inc. Mr. McFay holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Michigan’s Lawrence Technological University and joined the company in 1994. He ably incorporates Bonville Construction’s emphasis on structural strength, low-maintenance, and high-energy efficiency into wonderful, eye-appealing residences with practical functionality. An expert in computer-assisted design, Mr. McFay is noted for his innovative house designs rendered in a timely and efficient fashion with complete plans, specifications, and landscape details. McFay is a member of the American Institute of Building Designers, is a Certified Cisco Network Administrator, and has received numerous citations and awards at National, State and Local levels. His architectural skills and construction management experience have proven invaluable to the growth and smooth operation of Bonville Construction Company. After the design and planning phases, his regular oversight of the construction job greatly aids in the timely, accurate, and efficient delivery of the residence. John is married and lives locally with his wife Suzanne and two children, Hunter and Langdon.
SUE HAMMER, an interior designer /decorator with Bonville Construction, was educated at the Parsons School of Design and the New York School of Design. Sue had her own design firm in Scarsdale, New York where she lived most of her adult life. Both residential and commercial projects were accomplished throughout New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. For the past ten years. Sue and her husband Pat have resided in Pinehurst where she has continued to enjoy helping clients with their homes. She believes whether it is a home or a business establishment, the clients’ taste should be reflected. With attention to detail, color, furniture placement, and accessorizing, the project will not only be successful but will also meld the ideas of the contractor, the architectural designer, and homeowners. Recent design jobs are two of the homes featured in the Bonville Company brochure as well as two new Centennial Banks in Southern Pines and Olmstead Village. Sue also recently completed the offices of Sandhills Dermatology. Both Sue and her husband are avid tennis players. Sue serves as a principal staff member of the Village Design Group.
SUSAN L. BROWN, an interior designer/decorator with Bonville Construction, has a B.A. in Art History from Mary Baldwin College. She also completed extensive studies in Art, Architecture and Design at the Sorbonne. She has 30 years studio experience and is active in both commercial and residential design. Describe in detail your client’s role in the design and layout of their new home.
Bonville Construction is considered one of the best building companies in this area and we have been so recognized with an array of awards. In addition, we have been selected in the past to build three Southern Living Magazine showcase homes. This is indicative of the trust and confidence customers can have in our home planning and building. Whether from a stock plan brought to us by the customer, a home plan from our portfolio of designs, or a brand new custom home plan, close collaboration with the customer in identifying their needs and desires is paramount. Decisions at all levels in the planning and construction phases are made with full coordination and consideration of advocating our clients’ interests, and advancing their priorities. We only build a few homes a year, some of average size and others quite expansive, but we build each one with care and precision. We also have a remodeling division, which is very active with home additions and improvements. This, coupled with our custom home design division, affords the customer, in many respects, a one-stop shopping center for home design/construction and remodeling.

How (specifically) do you personalize service to your customers?
If a client selects our company for the design and/or construction of their home, we will be helping them through many, if not all, of the stages of home design, budgeting, material selections, landscape planning, Architectural Review Board approval, site preparation, construction, and even interior design and decor. We will be answering their questions all through these processes, aiding them in decisions, and doing our utmost to eliminate any and all concerns. We will be answering their questions all through these processes, aiding them in decisions, and doing our utmost to eliminate any and all concerns. If the client is normally present in the local area, this is usually accomplished through personal meetings either in the office or at the job site. Often, clients do not move to the Pinehurst area until their home plans are completed or, even later when construction is considerably under way. In the latter case, coordination and communication is easily accomplished by various means as available; e.g. Fax machine, telephone, Internet E-mail, U.S. Post Office, or express delivery.
We serve clients best by hiring and fostering the most talented people available, and we work hard to effect personalized service between our clients and our various specialists. Starting early in the home planning process, we effect coordination with specialists such as our kitchen/bath designers, interior decorator, and others to assure minimal changes during actual construction. For example, Sue Hammer and Susan Brown, Interior Decorators, will early on work to advise on space planning, furniture placement, special window considerations, unique wall niches, and a myriad of other space, decorative considerations to incorporate in the home plan. Such advice and client consent throughout all phases of the planning and construction processes assures the advocacy of our clients’ interests and the advancement of their priorities.
-
Does the client speak and work directly with the builder?

-
What do you, as the builder, offer customers that are special compared to other builders?
Our business principles stated above in the answer to Question Number 4 generally layout those aspects of our company which make us special among builders.
(A) Certainly, the thorough identification of our clients’ need and a corporate priority of advocating our clients’ interests first and advancing their priorities above all else, sets our company apart.
(B) Our encouraging the use of state-of-the-art, innovative construction technology assures buildings of high structural integrity, cost-saving energy utilization, low maintenance requirements, and long-term quality of life for occupants of any age or physical condition.
(C) Certainly our provision of high quality professional services to our clients at competitive prices is an important factor. While no company can continue to grow and serve clients without turning a profit, Bonville Construction effectively approaches this through efficient operations, cost management, and fair pricing.
(D) Exceeding our clients’ expectations is often readily achieved through diligent exercise of the three principles laid out above. But our attention to detail throughout the home building process and excellent customer service after the clients move in is key to complete customer satisfaction.
(E) Our policy of enhancing the professional growth and job satisfaction of our employees and sub-contractors goes hand in hand with our goal of serving clients best by hiring the most talented people available. -
